Lecce is a city in the Puglia region, in southern Italy, famous for its Baroque-style buildings. In Piazza del Duomo, in the historic centre, stands Lecce Cathedral, characterised by a double façade and a bell tower. The Basilica of Santa Croce is richly decorated with sculptures and a rose window. Nearby are the column of Sant'Oronzo, topped by a bronze statue of the city's patron saint, and the Roman amphitheatre, built partly below ground level.
